Katy Hellman

Director of Teaching & Learning

I found out about Trapezium when I first moved to Philadelphia in the fall of 2019. I have been working with Trapezium since then, working as a teacher manager and teaching classes. I have worked with elementary age students for the past 7 years. I began working in afterschool programs right after college and have been working with young ones ever since.

I was born on Long Island, grew up in New Jersey and have been a long term resident of Burlington, Vermont.

I was a Film and Spanish double major at the University of Vermont - graduated in 2014.

What do you like about teaching with Trapezium?

I love the energy and enthusiasm we can bring to this job. Being silly and playing games are my favorite ways to be with students. I love that Angela has designed a curriculum that makes teaching and learning math fun for the teachers and students.

What is something about you that people may find unusual or otherwise interesting?

I am a songwriter and a musician. I sing, play bass and guitar and play in a band with my Trapezium co-worker, Steven Lebel. I also love learning about plants, trees, flowers and mushrooms and exploring the wilderness in Vermont.
