Trapezium 10-Minute Math supports students in developing automaticity with basic facts and strong number sense through highly engaging 10-minute games and activities that can be used in Tier 1 and Tier 2 group settings.
10-Minute Math Includes:
We believe face-to-face instruction with a trained teacher provides the best intervention environment for students. Further, we believe that isolating, computer-based, adaptive instruction does not provide an adequate level of support and fails to build the confidence needed to fully participate in a Tier 1 setting. Trapezium Math, Inc. uses an approach to intervention grounded in instructional topics and principles critical for foundational math success. We train teachers to use explicit instruction that is diagnostic, systematic and cumulative. Our system provides joyful, confidence-building instruction where students gain the skills necessary for successful reintegration into the Tier 1 classroom.
Trapezium Math Intervention Includes:
Trapezium’s Kindergarten Math program is developmentally appropriate, includes slow and iterative scaffolding and turnkey lesson plans for teachers. Trapezium Math, recognizes that students begin the year at a wide range of mathematics fluency and with many different needs. Our lessons engage mathematics learners at many different levels and with many different learning styles.
Kindergarten Math Curriculum Includes:
Trapezium Math partners with schools and districts to offer afterschool math club that students join virtually from home. Clubs meet once a week and are an hour long. Students are placed in proficiency based groups of up to 4 students and one club leader. This programming option is great for schools who want to support Title 1 students with after-school math support. Math club can also be a space for gifted students who need more challenge.
Math Club for Schools Includes:
Developing automaticity and strong number sense requires consistency and repetition. Summer is the perfect time for students to practice and solidify skills that were taught in the previous year to ensure that students can confidently begin the next school year. Trapezium's Summer School Math Program is highly engaging and joyful. Through games, movement and hands on activities students can practice and strengthen their foundational math skills while having fun!
Trapezium Summer Math Includes:
Automaticity Trapezium has developed incremental activities beginning in kindergarten that support full automaticity in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts by the end of 3rd grade.
Fluency
We support students in developing a mental map of numbers so that they can understand, relate, and connect numbers. Additionally we support students in transferring what they know about numbers to time, money and measurement.
Tenacity
Cultivating tenacity is essential to supporting a strong and confident math learner. Through different games and challenges we support students in developing the ability to approach hard math with a willingness to fail and keep trying. We want students to know they are capable of doing hard math!
Philadelphia, PA., MARCH 21, 2022 – Trapezium Math, a Philadelphia-based math program helping students in grades K-5 become confident and successful math learners, announced today that they have partnered with Cheltenham School District, a public school district serving Cheltenham Township in Montgomery County, to bring engaging after-school math to students in the district. Cheltenham School District has offered the program to their students in grades K-5, free of charge.
Over 150 students have signed up for Trapezium’s online program where students participate in small “clubs” that build joy and confidence in learning math. The program is designed to help students develop fluency in numbers and operations, and engage in problem-solving at students’ “just-right” math level through math problems, puzzles and brainteasers.
Brian Reilly, Director of STEM programs for the Cheltenham School District said “Trapezium Math has made it possible for our elementary students to get additional math practice and support at home. We’re very excited about giving students an opportunity to participate in math enrichment with their peers across the district.”
The Trapezium Math club sessions are held once a week for one hour. Each session has a maximum of four children in a group called a “club”, in order to allow for specialized learning. Sessions are virtual and can be attended from anywhere with a wifi connection. The program is as “technology-free” as possible and outside of Zoom, students use hands-on tools from their Clubhouse Kit for all of their math activities. The program also includes a parent engagement component. Every parent is given a free subscription to the Trapezium Portal and are trained on how to do fun math at home using the kit and portal activities.
“Creating highly engaging education experiences is at the core of what drives us,” said Angela McIver, PhD, founder of Trapezium. “We are grateful to the Cheltenham School district for thinking creatively and entrusting us with their students. Being transformative is a valuable trait for schools as they continue to navigate the pandemic and its impacts.”
Angela McIver, PhD. founded Monster Math Club in 2009 as an afterschool program. In 2014, the name was changed to Trapezium Math, and in 2020 the club moved entirely online due to the pandemic. Trapezium prides itself on spreading the joy of math by meeting each child at their just-right level by providing varying levels of difficulty and using small group instruction to keep kids engaged.
